Why choose Khaya Volunteer Work for a gap year while there are so many other organizations out there?

It is a difficult and big decision; you have been saving up for this experience or might even have taken out a loan to volunteer abroad or take a gap year in South Africa or Tanzania! There are many volunteering organizations that offer such an experience with a wide range of choices and costs involved. Many of them appear to be good and honest organizations but are overcharging and offering little in return, some not even giving money to the project itself

We believe that Khaya is different from these organizations, being a fair and open company and receptive for feedback and suggestions!

Khaya Volunteer has its main office in South Africa and all staff members actually live in South Africa. Therefore they know all projects, having visited them and still communicating with them. Khaya Volunteer employs local staff where possible and supports the local community this way.

Our volunteering organization has a personal approach meaning that you will be in contact with one person all the time, who will not only reply to your emails within 48 hours but will also go the extra mile to give you all the information needed to answer your volunteer or travel questions.

The volunteer projects that Khaya works with are small and handpicked. You won’t be one of 50 volunteers taking turns to touch the elephant or lion cubs! Some projects are just starting up and need to improve their ways of dealing with volunteers. That is our focus; to uplift and support those projects that need it the most!

Khaya volunteer commits itself to find those projects that need your help and truly offer a life changing experience. We have been around enough and seen many projects doing very well with their numbers of volunteers, only to become the next volunteer factory and only focusing on numbers.

Our goal is to offer those projects that are personal, where you can make a difference, where you are not one of many and have a unique experience!

Khaya volunteer will not claim that your volunteering in South Africa or Tanzania will always run smooth and exactly as planned, that is part of the experience and challenge! What we can say and will promise is that we will do our utmost best to support you in any way and will be available to support you on the side line when things are not going as planned.

We will also claim that we charge honest prices for our projects, that a part of your fee will directly go to the project as a donation and that other costs such as accommodation and pickup (depending on project) will be covered.

We need you as a happy and satisfied volunteer to help promote our projects and we can only do that by giving the best service possible. We can’t make magic, but we will at least try!
