I had a wonderful time in South Africa. It was an experience to spend so much with the lions and other animals. Working so closely for the lion cubs, lions, jaguars and leopards was so special.

 

Every day you play with them, give them hugs and all the love you have. During the night you can hear the lions roaring, so close are the enclosures. But it is also a good lesson in care and danger for animals.

The owners Ingrad and her son Pieter are the most fantastic people you can imagine. They try to explain every part of farm and project and sometimes you have the chance to join them to pick up meat for the animals. Even when they need to dart lions, you can join them, which is quite an experience.   I really loved volunteering at this Khaya Volunteer Project and am glad I took this opportunity.

But the most special thing about them is a big smile on their faces, every single day.

The lions, tigers, jaguars and owners have a big place in my heart.
