Testimonial Of Volunteer Jelle

“The best experience of my life”.

jelleThis is the best way I can describe the month I spent in Tanzania with Tunawapenda Watoto Projects. And although you have to experience it yourself to completely understand, I will try to describe what it was like for me.

I have to admit that I was a little anxious about leaving home and going to a country that is so different to Belgium in so many ways. What I didn’t expect is that I would feel so much at home as fast as I did. The people at the project are so nice and immediately make you feel comfortable and welcome. And the way the kids welcome you is just wonderful! You can tell they truly enjoy the attention and love they get from the volunteers and they definitely need it, as all kids do.

I met a great bunch of other volunteers who quickly became good friends. And so did the members of the staff. This makes it so much easier to adapt to the different lifestyle and lack of some things we take for granted back home, such as running water for example.

It is an experience I would gladly recommend to everybody. The country is so beautiful and there is so much to see and to do. Because you live with the local people and you go to local places and events, it is far more real than any ‘normal tourist’ could ever experience. The people are so friendly and the satisfaction you get from working and living with the children is priceless.

I hope the project can continue to do this great work and they can continue to develop and help more kids in the community. And I definitely hope I can visit them again soon!
