About
Assist trained adults to motivate and uplift primary school learners with the necessary skills and capabilities that will enable them to become stronger individuals. You will have the opportunity to engage learners in both educational and recreational activities to keep them safe and reduce the risk of being a victim to violence on the streets.
The goal is to stimulate children’s language development by introducing beautiful stories to them. Storytelling develops listening skills, enhances verbal expression, increases comprehension, creates mental images and highlights verbal reasoning. It also encourages the child to value books and stories.
As a volunteer you will be able to assist learners in the following areas:
Cognitive Impact: The learners’ understanding of the story and asking questions require logical and analytical thinking.
Social Impact: Through stories they learn appropriate behavior when relating to others and how to cope with their feelings.
Physical Impact: The learner learns how to handle books appropriately and it develops their motor skills through picking books up and paging through them.
Emotional Impact: Observe how the learners are feeling, what interests excites them, what their fears and anxieties are and what they already know and can do.
Language Impact: It provides opportunities for learners to read books in their own mother tongue. Listening to stories helps them to understand how the language is structured and how to use it; including the sounds, words, grammar and sentence construction.

Meals
Breakfast, packed lunch and dinner is included in your fee, which will be served daily. Breakfast and lunch is self-service.
Please make a note to mention special dietary requirements and allergies before you arrive. You will have to supply your own groceries if your needs are very complicated to match with other volunteer’s meals.
Transport
Arriving at the project
Your pick up at the airport or hostel in Cape Town is included. Arrival should ideally be on Friday afternoon or anytime Saturday. The day after arrival will be a half day orientation/city tour where volunteers will be given an introduction to the city and its history and the Do’s and Dont’s will be covered.

Your daily transport to and from the project is not included in the total price, as we use the services of a company for this. The weekly fee of R300 (25 euro) can be paid in cash upon arrival or to the driver of your transport.
